How to Increase your VOICE & MIC Level Volume on STEAM Settings (Best Method)
Adjusting your microphone volume within Steam is a crucial step to ensure you can be heard clearly by your friends in voice chat. While your microphone's volume is primarily controlled by your PC's operating system, Steam provides its own settings to fine-tune the levels for your voice chat.
1. Access Steam's Voice Settings
Open the Steam client on your computer.
Click on "Friends" at the bottom right of the client, then select "View Friends List."
In the Friends List window, click the gear icon ⚙ ️ in the top right corner.
From the settings menu that appears on the left, click on "Voice."
2. Configure Your Microphone Volume and Gain
Once you're in the Voice settings, you can adjust your volume and other related options:
Voice Input Device: First, make sure you have the correct microphone selected. The default setting will use whatever your Windows PC has set as the default microphone. If you have a specific mic you want to use, select it from the dropdown menu.
Input Volume/Gain: This is the main slider for your microphone's volume. Drag the slider to the right to increase your volume and make your voice louder for your friends. It's a good idea to have a friend on a voice call with you while you adjust this to find the sweet spot.
Start Microphone Test: This button allows you to test your mic's volume without being in a call. Speak into your microphone and watch the level bar to see if it's picking up your voice at a good level.
3. Adjust Advanced Settings
In the same "Voice" menu, you can click on "Show Advanced Options" to access more settings that can affect your volume and voice quality:
Automatic volume/gain control: This setting automatically adjusts your microphone volume to a consistent level. If your voice is getting louder and quieter on its own, try turning this feature off.
Noise Gate: The "Voice Transmission Threshold" acts as a noise gate. If your friends are hearing background noise like keyboard clicks or a fan, try setting this to "Medium" or "High." Be careful, as setting it too high can cut off parts of your words if you are speaking quietly.
