About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to make a Minecraft server in 1.20. Our goal with this tutorial is to create a complete and comprehensive guide on how to setup a Minecraft server that will allow you to start playing Minecraft 1.20 with your friends no matter what.

We truly cover everything from downloading the Minecraft server files for 1.20 to port forwarding your server and getting the IP address for your friends to join, it truly is all covered.

To get started, it is worth mentioning that this server is not a 24 hour server. It is only up when your computer is up and running, and it uses your own network and computer hardware. This means that the server is only meant for your friends, family, and people you trust. If you do want a public Minecraft server or just one that is up all the time for your friends, we outline how to do that in this video!

With that in mind, we need to start off by downloading the Minecraft 1.20 server file. In the description above, you will find a link to download the server file. This will take to you to our text tutorial on how to make a Minecraft server in 1.20. There, click the “Download Minecraft” button to be taken to Minecraft’s official website and the Minecraft server download page.

On this page, click the “minecraft_server.jar” link to start downloading the Minecraft server.jar file for 1.20. You may need to keep or save this file, depending on your browser.

Once you have the server file downloaded, create a folder on your desktop called “Minecraft 1.20 Server”, and move the server.jar you downloaded into it.

With the server.jar in this folder, double-click on it. The server will generate some files. If it doesn’t, you need Java 17 and to run the Jarfix, which you can find linked in the description above.

You should have an eula.txt file. Open this with notepad, and if you agree to the Minecraft server EULA, change “eula=false” to “eula=true”. Then, save the document.

Now, go back to your Minecraft 1.20 Server folder, and double-click the server.jar again. This will start the server. At this point, you can join the server. The IP address you will use to join is “localhost”.

For your friends to join your Minecraft 1.20 server though, you will need port forward. We cover port forwarding for your Minecraft 1.20 server completely in this video. However, the quick version is that you will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol for your local IPv4 address.

After you have done this, you can get your public IP address from the link in the description above. This is how your friends will join your 1.20 Minecraft server. You may also be able to join your server via the public IP, but if not, you can always use the “localhost” IP with your friends using the public IP address to join.

At this point though, you know exactly how to make a Minecraft server in 1.20. If you have any questions about how to setup a Minecraft server in 1.20, let us know in the comments we will try our best to help you out.
