About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to make a Paper server in Minecraft 1.16.5. Why would you want to create a PaperMC server for 1.16.5? Well, Paper is the best way to start a Minecraft server simply because of performance. Paper Minecraft servers are designed to be as lag free as possible from the start. This means you can use less RAM and CPU resources when running your server. Additionally, you can also add plugins to a PaperMC server allowing you do so much more that you can on a stock Minecraft server. Thus, without anymore delay, here is how to create a Paper server in Minecraft 1.16.5.
The first step of creating a Paper Minecraft server in 1.16.5 is downloading the Paper server files. You can find a link to the Paper download page in the description above. Once you are there, click on the download icon on the most recent version of Paper 1.16.5. This will download the PaperMC server JAR. You will need to keep/save the file depending on your browser.
After you have the Paper server JAR downloaded, create a folder on your desktop called ‘Paper 1.16.5 Server’. Then, drag-and-drop the server file you downloaded into this folder. Open the folder, and rename the Paper server JAR you downloaded to ‘paper.jar’.
You then need to right-click in this folder and click create and then click ‘New Text Document’. Open the document you created and copy the code from the description above with the amount of RAM that you want and paste it into the text document you created. Finally, click file, save as, and make the file name ‘run.bat’. Then, change save type as to ‘All Files’. Save the file, and you are all done. Now, just double-click run.bat file you created.
When you open your run.bat file, it will actually fail at first. This is because you need to agree to the Minecraft EULA. Open your EULA.txt file, and if you agree to the Minecraft EULA, change EULA=false to EULA=true. Then, save the EULA.txt file. Now, double-click the run.bat file again. Your Paper 1.16.5 Minecraft server will finally open up.
Now, you can join your server using your local IP address. However, if you want your friends to join, you will need to port forward your PaperMC server. We cover this in the video, but you will need to forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol.
Once you do that, your friends will be able to join off your public IP address. You can join on your local IP address to get the best performance possible.
