You can also run shaders with mods in Minecraft 1.16.5 if you install Optifine with Forge. Thus, without any more delay, here is how to use Optifine with Forge in Minecraft 1.16.5!
The first step of getting Forge with Optifine is actually downloading Forge for Minecraft 1.16.5 and getting it installed. This is done just like you would with normal Minecraft mods. You can find our in-depth Forge tutorial for 1.16.5 in the description above. That tutorial goes over everything you need to know about installing Forge for Minecraft. We even go over some of the different issues you may have when adding Forge to Minecraft 1.16.5. For example, you may need to install Java and run the Jarfix.
After you have Forge installed, you need to download Optifine. You can find the Optifine download link for Forge in the description above. Once you are there, scroll down and click the green ‘Download Optifine’ button. You will then be taken to Optifine’s download page. Find the 1.16.5 section on this page, and click on the ‘mirror’ link next to it. You will then be taken to the 1.16.5 Optifine download page. Click the blue download link here to start downloading Optifine. You will need to keep/save the file depending on your browser.
Now, we can install Optifine in Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. This is pretty easy. Just open up the Run application by pressing the Windows Key and ‘R’ at the exact same time. Once the Run application is open, type ‘%appdata%’ in the text box, and hit enter. When you do that, your roaming folder will appear. Here, you will see a ‘.minecraft’ folder. Open that folder, and you should see a mods folder. If you don’t have a mods folder, just create one!
When you find or create your mods folder, open it. All you need you to do to install Optifine with Forge is drag-and-drop Optifine into this mods folder. It’s that simple to use Optifine with Forge. You can’t completely done after you do this though. You need to open up the Minecraft launcher still, select the ‘Forge’ profile by click on in the pop-up menu in the bottom right, and clicking play. You will get a warning that you are about to play modded Minecraft. This is okay, so play anyway.
Once you are in-game, the only way to see that Optifine is actually installed with Forge is to go to ‘Options’ and ‘Video Settings’. You will then see Optifine in the bottom left along with the Optifine version. You will also see all of Optifine settings here including shaders, improved performance setting, and more.
