About this video: In this video, we show you how to make a Paper server in 1.17.1. From where to download the PaperMC files from to how to actually create a Paper Minecraft server in 1.17.1, this is the video for you! We show you exactly how to do everything when it comes to creating a Minecraft Paper server in 1.17.1, so let’s go ahead and do it!
The first step of making a PaperMC server in 1.17.1 is downloading the Paper 1.17.1 server files. You can find a link in the description above to download PaperMC. That will actually take you to our text tutorial for starting a Paper Minecraft server in 1.17.1. Once you are there, scroll down and click the ‘Download PaperMC’ button to be taken to the Paper Minecraft download page. Once you are there, click on the number next to the most recent version of Paper on this page. Paper 1.17.1 will start downloading. You will need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.
Once you have the 1.17.1 Paper Minecraft server file downloaded, you will need to create a new folder on your computer’s desktop called ‘Paper Server 1.17.1’. Drag-and-drop the PaperMC file you downloaded into this folder.
Open your newly created folder, and right-click in the folder and select create a new ‘Text Document’. Open that text document, and copy and paste the code for the amount of RAM you want in the description above. Then, click ‘File’, ‘Save As’. Name this file ‘run.bat’, and change save type as to ‘all files’. Save the new text document. You will now have a run.bat file. Rename the PaperMC file you downloaded to ‘paper.jar’. Finally, double-click the run.bat file.
Some files will then download and the CMD will open. Close the CMD and open up the ‘EULA.txt’ file. Change the ‘EULA=false’ string to ‘EULA=true’. Save this file, and double click the run.bat file again. Your Minecraft Paper Server will open up in 1.17.1!
At this point, you can join your server by typing ‘localhost’ as the server IP. However, no one else will be able to join your Minecraft Paper 1.17.1 server. For others to join, you will need to port forward.
The good news is we go over every step of port forwarding in the video, and we have links to help you port forward in the description above. In short, you will need to port forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol. When you do this, your friends will be able join via your public IP.
