Apps would usually stop working due to some unknown bugs, erratic settings and data corruption. When this happens, there is a higher chance that the entire system functions become flawed.
There are many ways to deal with app-related issues in mobile devices. Among the frequently used solutions include clearing cache and data, force stopping and updating apps. In the case where the app suddenly misbehaves following some settings alteration, resetting app preferences, if not reinstalling the application can be deemed among the next potential solutions.
Depicted in this tutorial video is the process of resetting the app preferences on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 smartphone. Feel free to refer to this clip should you need some input on how to restore the default app permissions and settings on your Xiaomi Redmi phone.
Steps to Reset App Preferences on Xiaomi Redmi Note 9
This reset does not delete any app data or saved information on the device, so there's no need to create backups.
Whenever you're ready, tap the Settings icon from the Apps viewer to access the main settings menu.
A list of all built-in services and features will load up on the next screen.
Scroll down to view more items on the lower section. Then, tap Apps to continue.
On the next screen, you will see app-related functions and relevant options.
Select the option to Manage apps.
Another menu opens, prompting a list of all installed apps and main controls.
On the upper-rightmost corner, you will see a triple-dot icon. Tap on it to view additional options and app-related commands.
A side menu will then appear.
From the side menu, select the option to Reset app preferences.
A pop-up warning message will appear beneath the screen.
Read and review the details and then tap the Reset apps button to proceed.
The phone will then start erasing all custom app preferences and then restores the defaults.
When the reset is finished, all the default applications for a certain file or data type are restored. This means the need for you to specify which app to be set as default when opening or launching a specific file type or protocol on your phone.
Normally, you will get an action prompt asking you to choose the app you want to open your selection with.
Aside from default apps, resetting app preferences will likewise reset all disabled apps, background data restrictions, permission restrictions and notification restrictions.
Again, this process does not affect any existing app data, so there's no need to worry about losing any important information afterwards.
What Happens After the Reset
After the reset, the default preferences for all installed apps are cleared. That said, your phone will once again ask you to select a default app whenever you attempt to open a file such as a photo via file explorer and the like. In this case, you will be prompted with two options and that is Just Once and Always, or something similar. Apps that you've previously disabled will also be re-enabled and so, you will need to manually disable them again.
And that’s all about resetting app preferences on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 smartphone.
