How to Share PlayStation Plus & Games on PS4 Accounts (Share to Every Account)
Sharing PlayStation Plus benefits and digital games on PS4 accounts primarily revolves around the "Activate as Your Primary PS4" setting. This feature allows other users on that specific console to access the content and online capabilities of the account that has it activated.
Here's a breakdown of how it works and how to set it up:
Key Concept: Primary PS4 Activation
Each PlayStation Network account can have one PS4 console activated as its "Primary PS4." When an account activates a console as its primary, it essentially designates that console as its "home" console.
Benefits of a Primary PS4:
PlayStation Plus Sharing: All other accounts on that Primary PS4 can access certain PlayStation Plus benefits, including:
Online multiplayer for games.
The ability to play games claimed through PlayStation Plus (Essential, Extra, Premium catalogs) by the primary account, even if those other accounts don't have PS Plus themselves.
Digital Game Sharing: All digital games purchased or downloaded by the primary account can be played by any other user on that same console, even if the primary account is not signed in.
Offline Play: Games downloaded by the primary account can be played by any user on that console even if the console is offline.
Automatic Downloads/Uploads: Pre-ordered content and game updates can download automatically even in Rest Mode.
Remote Play: You can use Remote Play from other devices (like a PC or smartphone) to connect to your Primary PS4, even if you're not logged in on the console.
Limitations:
One Primary PS4: An account can only have one PS4 activated as its primary console at a time.
No Simultaneous Play of the Same Digital Game by the Same Account: While other accounts can play games from the primary account, the primary account cannot play its own digital games on a different (non-primary) console at the same time if the primary console is online. However, if the account owner plays on a secondary console, any other account on the primary console can still play the primary account's games.
No PS Plus Cloud Saves for Other Users: While other users can play PS Plus games and access online multiplayer, their cloud saves (for games they own) are not covered by the primary account's PS Plus subscription. They would need their own PS Plus subscription for their own cloud saves.
Discounts Not Shared: PS Plus discounts are only available to the PS Plus subscribing account.
How to Set Up Game & PS Plus Sharing
Scenario 1: Sharing on a single PS4 (e.g., family members in the same household)
This is the most common and simplest scenario.
Log in to the PSN Account that has PlayStation Plus and/or owns the digital games. This will be the "sharing account."
From the PS4 Home screen, go to Settings (the toolbox icon).
Select Account Management.
Select Activate as Your Primary PS4.
If it says "Activated," you're all set. If not, select Activate.
Once activated, any other user profile on that PS4 console will be able to:
Play online multiplayer (if the sharing account has PS Plus).
Play any digital games downloaded by the sharing account.
Play games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog (Extra/Premium tiers) or monthly games claimed by the sharing account.
Scenario 2: Sharing with a friend/family member on a different PS4 (Game Sharing between two consoles)
This is a common practice, but it means you and your friend essentially swap primary consoles for your accounts.
Console A (Your PS4):
Deactivate Your PSN Account as Primary (temporarily, for this setup).
Log in to your PSN account on your PS4.
Go to Settings- Account Management - Activate as Your Primary PS4.
Select Deactivate.
Log in to your friend's PSN account on your PS4 console.
Activate your friend's PSN account as Primary on your PS4.
Go to Settings - Account Management - Activate as Your Primary PS4 (while logged into their account).
Select Activate.
Log back into your own PSN account on your PS4.
Now, you can play all of your friend's digital games on your PS4 (and they'll have access to your PS Plus benefits if they have PS Plus on their console, as explained below). You'll still need to be online to play your own digital games, as your console is no longer primary for your account.
