How to Connect Wireless PS4 Controller to PS4 Console (Best Method)
Connecting a wireless PS4 controller (DualShock 4) to your PS4 console is usually a straightforward process. Here's how to do it:
The Primary Method: USB Pairing (Initial Setup or Re-syncing)
This is the most common and reliable way to connect a new controller or to re-sync a controller that's having trouble connecting wirelessly.
Get a USB Data Cable: This is crucial. Not all USB cables are "data cables" – some are "charge-only." You need a micro-USB cable that can transfer data. The one that came with your PS4 console or a quality smartphone charging cable will usually work.
How to test: If a cable only charges your controller but doesn't allow it to control the PS4 when plugged in, it's likely charge-only.
Connect the Controller:
Plug the small micro-USB end of the cable into the port on the top of your PS4 controller (between the L2 and R2 buttons).
Plug the standard USB-A end of the cable into one of the USB ports on the front of your PS4 console.
Turn On Your PS4 (if off): Power on your PS4 console.
Press the PS Button: Once the controller is physically connected via the USB cable, press the PS button (the circular PlayStation logo button in the middle of the controller).
The light bar on the controller should light up (usually blue for Player 1, red for Player 2, etc.) and you should be able to navigate the PS4 menu.
Disconnect USB (Optional): Once the light bar is solid and you can control the PS4, you can now disconnect the USB cable. The controller should remain connected wirelessly.
