How to Stop Controller Opening Steam Big Picture Mode (Best Method)
Steam's "Big Picture Mode" is a full-screen, controller-friendly interface designed for use on a TV. By default, pressing the Home/Guide button on most controllers (like the Xbox or PlayStation button) will launch this mode. If you prefer to use your controller on your desktop without this happening, here are the best methods to disable it.
Method 1: The "General Controller Settings" Menu (Most Reliable)
This method directly addresses the behavior of the Home/Guide button within Steam's settings.
Open Steam: Launch the Steam desktop client.
Go to Settings: In the top-left corner, click on "Steam," then "Settings."
Navigate to Controller Settings: In the left-hand menu, select Controller.
Open General Controller Settings: Click the "GENERAL CONTROLLER SETTINGS" button. This will open a new window.
Disable "Guide Button Focuses Steam": In this new window, you'll see a list of controller settings. Uncheck the box next to "Guide Button Focuses Steam."
This setting is designed to bring the Steam client to the forefront and open Big Picture Mode when you press the guide button. Disabling it is the most effective way to stop this behavior.
