How to STOP Switching Audio on PS5 from Speakers to Headset
plug in your headset (wired via the controller or USB) and head back to Settings, Sound, Audio Output. Even with the headset connected, ensure Output Device stays set to TV or HDMI Device. Then, go to Output to Headphones and select Chat Audio Only. This ensures game and system audio stick to the speakers, while the headset handles party or game chat if you’re using it. The PS5 should stop auto-switching as long as the output device is manually set to the speakers.
If the audio still jumps to the headset, double-check the Control Center. Press the PS button, select Sound, and confirm the Output Device hasn’t flipped to Headset Connected to Controller or your USB headset. Adjust it back to TV if needed. This can happen if the system overrides your settings on detecting a new device, but locking it to TV in the main settings usually holds.
For a permanent fix, avoid plugging in the headset until you’re ready to use it for chat, or use a headset with a dedicated mute switch to keep it silent when connected. Test it by connecting your headset and starting a game—audio should stay on the speakers unless you manually change it. Let me know if it keeps switching despite this!
