How to Fix Corrupted Data on PS5 with Safe Mode Option (Settings Tutorial)
First, turn off your PS5 completely. If it’s stuck, hold the power button for a few seconds until it shuts down. Then, boot it into Safe Mode: press and hold the power button, let go after you hear the second beep, about 7 seconds later. You’ll need your controller connected with a USB cable, so plug it in, then press the PS button to pair it.
Once you’re in Safe Mode, you’ll see a menu. Start with option 5, “Rebuild Database.” This scans your PS5’s drive and fixes any corrupted files it finds, kind of like reorganizing a messy filing cabinet. It won’t delete your games or saves, but it might take a few minutes depending on how much stuff you’ve got installed. When it’s done, restart the PS5 and check if the issue’s gone.
If that doesn’t work, the corruption might be deeper. Go back to Safe Mode and try option 3, “Update System Software.” Choose “Update Using Internet” to grab the latest firmware, since a fresh update can sometimes overwrite bad data. Follow the prompts, let it install, and restart.
Still seeing errors? The next step is option 6, “Reset PS5,” but be careful, this wipes everything. Pick “Reset and Remove Everything” only if you’re okay starting fresh. Before you do, back up your saves to a USB drive or PS Plus cloud if you can, through Settings, Saved Data and Game/App Settings. After the reset, you’ll need to reinstall your games, but it should clear out any stubborn corruption.
