First things first, let’s look at ease of use. MCProHosting has a custom control panel. There is a lot going on in this panel, and because it is custom, it has a learning curve. However, your start, stop, restart, and kill buttons are prominent, and your IP address is easily visible. It’s easy to change your server location, and you can also easily change your server type to a different version or modpack. Once you get past the learning curve, MCProHosting is actually relatively easy to use.
User guides are something we think is super important for a Minecraft hosting company. At MCProHosting, guides aren’t easily findable from the management panel. Being a custom panel, this make things difficult. Once you find the MCProHosting knowledge base at the bottom of the page, there is a lot of different articles - over 80 currently for Minecraft servers. These can be hard to navigate, but you can search for what you are looking for.
Support is one area that we had issues at MCProHosting. Livechat support is not 24 hours. It is only avaliable from 9AM to 1AM EST. This is a big chunk of the day, but not truly 24 hours. On top of that, it took nearly 10 minutes for me to get support at 2PM EST on a Saturday. Truly, it took forever. When we finally did get someone, responses were decently quick.
Moving on the hardware at MCProHosting, live support stated all of their servers are on E5-2600 CPUs from intel. These are older CPUs. Something that supprised me, but as long as they aren’t over stuffed, it shouldn’t be a problem. Would be nice to see a higher-spec CPU option especially for the price you are paying though. MCProHosting’s hardware is due for an update in our opinion.
As far as modpacks go, MCProHosting supports over 160 modpacks in addition to having a few minigames they are support as well. This is very good and one area where MCProHosting stands out in this review. One odd thing though, in order to install modpacks, you have to purchase your server and then install them. From what we can tell, you cannot install them during the purchase process.
MCProHosting is not a budget host, and as far as pricing goes, you are going to pay $11.99 per month for a 2GB server and $22.99 per month for a 4GB server. There is currently a 7 day free trial for servers at MCProHosting though, so you can try before you buy. This promo could go away though.
The final point we want to look at in regards to MCProHosting is server locations. They knock things out of the park here on a surface level as they have 23 locations currently. However, 11 of these locations are in North America. Outside of those, you have 4 in Europe, 2 in Asia, 1 in Africa, 4 in Australia/New Zealand, and 1 in South America. Thus, if you are US or Canada, MCProHosting has you covered. If not, another host may be better.
Overall though, MCProHosting gets 4 out 5 when it comes to Minecraft server hosts. What takes so much away from MCProHosting is their hardware, long support time, lack of true 24 hours support, and hard to navigate knowledgebase and support documents.
