How to use Spirit Guardians (and similar spells) in the D&D 5e 2024 Update!
With the official release of the 2024 Player's Handbook coming up this week, I'd like to highlight one of the more interesting changes: the way Spirit Guardians and other similar spells now trigger their damage. In 2014, these spells triggered their damage when a creature entered the area for the first time on a a turn or started their turn their. Under the 2024 rules, they've made pretty much all spells that do damage over time trigger under the same set of circumstances: when a creature enters the area, when the area enters a creature's space, and when a creature ends their turn in the area, but a creature can only take damage once per turn.
