FAQ
Q: Can't you increase the length of the Kickstarter?
A: No, the duration can't be changed after the campaign has started. Kickstarter also recommends that campaign durations are kept lower than 30 days, and says that shorter campaigns are more often successful.
Q: What will happen to the money raised so far if the Kickstarter isn't successful?
A: The backers will never be charged unless the campaign is successful. Therefore no-one will lose any money and I won't receive anything.
Q: 60K was too much! Why don't you try again with a lower target?
A: The Kickstarter target of 60K was not based on how much I thought I could get, it was based on the absolute minimum amount needed to complete this project. All I wanted was to be able to continue working on Socuwan, so it was in my best interest to make the target as low as I possibly could. Don't forget, after tax, fees, and other expenses I would only have been left with 37k, which would have needed to allow me to work full-time on the game, plus pay for servers, for up to 2 and a half years until the game was able to pay for itself.
Kickstarter also doesn't allow campaigns which would partially fund a project; it has to be all or nothing.
Q: Why have you already given up? There are still two weeks to go!
A: As much as I'd love to think there's still a chance of it being successful I really need to be realistic and start making plans for the future. Despite quite a few articles being written about Socuwan on websites and many posts and videos by the community being made on loads of different forums and social medias, only 19 pledges have been made from sources other than my own social media. And judging by the comments I've been getting, the majority of people finding the game for the first time are not going to consider pledging any time soon!
I'll still keep my fingers crossed until the very end and I'm still promoting the game whenever I can, but with only a little over 2K being raised in the last 2 weeks it really would take something miraculous for this to be successful now.
Q: Will you continue working on Socuwan?
A: Of course! Socuwan is my dream game, and the reason that I got into game development. It will always be an ongoing project for me until its completion! However, right now I think it would be best for myself and the future of Socuwan if I take a bit of a break from development. Firstly, so that I can concentrate on getting a decent job which is obviously my priority right now, and secondly so that I can work on a few smaller games that I've been thinking about. That will give me a chance to become more experienced at game dev, have the opportunity to actually release some games in the near future, and perhaps I could even make some money off them which could eventually end up allowing me to work full-time on Socuwan once again.
It will also be much easier for me to work on a smaller project while also having a full-time job, and it should still allow me the time to create the occasional devlog and tutorial!
Q: Will you continue making videos?
A: Absolutely! I definitely want to continue making tutorials because there are a lot of topics that I still want to cover, and I hope to start making devlogs about my new projects soon. The videos may not be as regular once I've started my new job, but I'll do my best to keep the channel going!
Q: Why don't you make a Patreon account?
A: I am definitely considering it as it could help to support the continuation of the devlogs and tutorials. I'll talk more about this in the update video on Friday.
Q: I sent in some content for Socuwan, was my hard work all for nothing?
A: Definitely not! It may well still end up getting used in Socuwan, but it will definitely be able to be used in the small new project that I've just started working on. I'll talk more about this new project in the update video.
