Jak & Daxter: Playthrough: Part 1: Title Screen, Opening, & Geyser Rock 100%
Time to start my 2nd PS2 playthrough. I've actually beaten this entire game while recording it before uploading a single video of it, until now, of course.
Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was created & developed by Naughty Dog, who also created the first 4 Crash Bandicoot games, from Crash 1 to Crash Team Racing. After CTR, they've retired from that series & sold it wholesale to the publisher they were working with for them, but that leads to a different story altogether...
Meanwhile, Naughty Dog itself became a fulltime subsidiary for Sony Computer Entertainment, and started their full collaboration with this game.
The game takes place in a fantasy version of what may or may not be Earth. Its human inhabitants have long, pointy elf-ears, and there's a handful of animals out there that are combos of real life animals.
--------------
The game starts off with Jak, a young man with green-to-yellow hair that would make any Super Saiyan proud, and Daxter, his goofy best friend, sailing to a forbidden island called Misty Island, looking for adventure.
During their travel through the island, they saw an army of sasquatch-like monsters called Lurkers, being commanded by two mysterious people. They're all looking for artifacts containing the world's essence called Eco, and they will not let anyone get in the way of that.
One of the Lurkers heard Jak & Daxter nearby and decided to investigate. Later on, the duo approach of pool containing the world's most dangerous substance: Dark Eco. The world's gods are called Precursors, and Daxter's tired of Samos wondering about everything that they left behind.
The lone Lurker from before found the duo, and planned to kill them. The good news, is that Jak knocked him away with a Precursor bomb. The bad news is that the recoil he got from the explosion caused him to knock Daxter into the Dark Eco pool.
The Dark Eco had turned him into an ottsel! Half-otter, half-weasel. Daxter was not pleased. He tried to calm down about it, but that quickly failed.
So Jak & Daxter return to their homeland of Sandover Village, and try to sneak back into Samos' hut like nothing happening. Samos the Green Sage quickly notices them anyway, and he is pissed about their disobedience regarding staying away from Misty Island.
He's unable to change Daxter back to his normal self, but because of how angry he is now, he likely doesn't want to. Only a sage known as Gol Acheron is able to do this, but he's far north from Sandover Village. There are other sages besides him & Samos, but their teleporter gates are still locked for some reason.
The long way to reach Gol would be to travel through Fire Canyon, but the lava & magma there is too intense for the Jak & Daxter to travel on foot.
That's when Samos' lovely daughter, Keira, shows up, and recommends that Jak flies over it using the A-Grav-Zoomer. She just needs 20 Power Cells to fuel its heat shield for traveling through Fire Canyon.
Before Jak & Daxter can travel through the village & for Power Cells, Samos forces them to train in Geyser Rock.
--------------
That when the game really starts. Geyser Rock is just a tutorial level where you can get used to the games controls & some of its gimmicks. The Precursor Orbs you find here and everywhere else can be used in trades for Power Cells. Said Power Cells are required to advance the plot.
You'll also learn other things, such as Green Eco, Blue Eco, & Scout Flies.
50 Small Green Ecos or 1 Big Green Eco increase your health by 1.
Blue Eco lets Jak run faster, attract items, & active Precursor technology.
Every area in the game has 7 Scout Flies. Collecting the 7th in the area automatically yields a Power Cell from it.
--------------
After completing Geyser Rock, Samos will let you go, with one of the first things you need to do for him is to unclog the Green Eco harvesters in Sentinel Beach.
