Jerp plays Subnautica: Below Zero pt.2 - Quickly Settling In & the Sea Train Begins (2021-05-16)
I feel like I'm getting situated and diving deeper way sooner than in the first game. Part of that is the huge heap of Oxygen plants, but part is also that I'm stocking extra oxygen tanks to swap out (something I only learned about after a my first couple of playthroughs of Subnautica).
My encounter with Alan has given me some initial direction, though I've mostly been ignoring it and browsing the ocean instead. Who knew that I'd find random dives into the depths more interesting than, you know, an alien being nestled inside my skull (also interesting how cybernetic implants are so casually mentioned).
As I'm getting more familiar with the Seatruck it seems to be a safer (likely less buggy and more performant), more controlled iteration of the Cyclops that doubles as a Seamoth (especially at the start). In not being able to build inside the Seatruck, I can't simply just build an entire mobile base and be safe and well-supplied forever. That also encourages making actual bases with the habitat builder.
The huge need for extra materials for base building seems to help balance out the item economy a good bit, and I'm forced to spend a lot more time branching out in search for whatever additional Seatruck modules exist (though, at least I got storage modules early so I can carry a whole lot of stuff).
I suppose the other advantage of the Seatruck is that it can fit in narrower places than the Cyclops, though possibly not without separating out modules and taking them through piece by piece.
The Sea Monkeys decided to add extra utility to being adorable by providing me with gifts! They seem to have a knack for giving me stuff that I need or am actively looking for (though perhaps part of that is that I'm in need of just about everything).
