Jerp plays Subnautica: Below Zero pt.8 - Deeper at last! (2021-05-23)
So I lost a Prawn, but at least now its replacement can go deeper than ever. I barely drove it out of the lot before a Chelicerate popped out of the wall and gave it a nibble. It’s a bit of a bummer how buggy Leviathans can be in both Subnautica games.
Speaking of bugs, the detached Seatruck suffocation issue reared its ugly head again - the game simply has no idea you’re in any danger if you chill out in a Seatruck without the main cabin attached. It’s strange how many weird issues are popping up with the game seeming to be reliant on events to drive behaviors rather than using states as a source of truth. With events you often need to resolve combinations of events and event order matters. With states you simply evaluate the sum of where you’re at and act accordingly (typically you event state changes to drive events, not the other way around). This is an issue I’ve had to address in the games I’ve worked on - it’s really easy to create a lot of bugs and undesired behaviors if you don’t have a good foundation.
Spent a bunch of time consolidating all of my random keepsakes into one single large base. I finally got a Water Filtration Machine, Recyclotron, an actual furnished bedroom, and tons of other fun stuff. Also decided to finally investigate multi-tiered Alien Containment structures. I think I’m probably not a huge fan of having the extra, more or less empty Multi-Purpose Room above it, and I might tinker with that a bit later on.
Alongside that new and improved Prawn, I also did some hefty upgrades to the Seatruck. Not only did I finally get the Docking Module so I can bring the Prawn with me, but I ended up getting the Teleportation Module as well - now I can beam myself straight back to the ship in case of emergencies. The Seatruck is now kind of colossally long, and even with the Horsepower Upgrade I’m kind of thinking I should shrink it down to maybe 6 modules total.
In a quest for direction it seems my main goals will be to scour for Ion Cubes and hope that leads to new Precursor sites with scannable tech to help assemble Alan’s body.
Also, take note that despite already having reached reached it, I didn't read the sign nor symbol and have completely missed that the tiny little research area I found is Omega Lab. This will become a major point later.
