Pardon my language, but of all the worthy Nintendo/Famicom games that can be put on the Wii's Virtual Console, why the heck is this one of them? I wanted great games like Crystalis and The Magic of Scheherazade to appear on it, but NOOOO, we have to get games like King's Knight. This is one of Squaresoft's dirty little secrets. They should have done everything in their power to see to it that the less people that know about this game, the better. It's Square games like this that make you wonder how on Earth they're still in business.

Am I exaggerrating? Only slightly. King's Knight is an ambitious game that screws itself over at nearly every turn. It's a shooter/RPG hybrid where you play with four characters who have to meet up to save a princess. They have their own strengths and weaknesses (although some would argue some of the characters only have weaknesses) and will aid you in the final battle to come. The bulk of this game consists not of fighting enemies but searching for any power-ups that might improve your odds ever so slightly at beating the final level. To do this, you shoot mountains and obstacles. Of course, this would be too easy, so there are also negative power-ups and things that drop your health, which outnumber the good health pick-ups by about 4:1.

The screen is almost always moving and the game has a number of devious traps and pitfalls which can get you stuck and crushed by the screen. With a little practice, the game is pretty easy until you get all your friends together. When that happens, brace yourself and good luck.
