Knights Contract - glitches and observations pt. 2
Some more miscellaneous glitches from this game.
0:00 - there's a consistent way to push Gretchen through doors or walls with the "examine" prompt in front of them.
To do it, stand back against the door, then pick up Gretchen and turn and examine the prompt very quickly. This causes Heinrich to drop Gretchen through the wall to the other side.
Sadly, Gretchen is unable to activate triggers or use prompts or do anything useful by herself, and dies if separated from Heinrich for long enough, so in most cases there's no reason at all to do this.
0:31 - some tests in Episode 18. Some of these clips are from really early tests before I even knew the universal wall clip tactic existed!
From the start of the level, after you get trapped, it's possible to high jump to either top side of the room by using debris as aid. However, both of these sides lead to dead ends, so the usefulness is limited.
The jump shown in this clip is the more difficult jump of the two, and it allows returning back where the level started.
1:07 - I also experimented with Spirit Cannon in this area after having acquired it. You can get on some other high debris in the area and blow yourself up to the side where the level started. Still not too useful.
1:28 - an early idea for sequence breaking was to breach the gate near the start of the level. To do it, I first clipped Gretchen through it using the tactic shown previously. After that, I went through with Witch's Embrace...
However, clipping through the gate seems to cause a bad side effect. I'm not 100% sure what happens, but it looks like you break out of the upcoming "fight start" cutscene and lose control of Heinrich entirely. Gretchen, now lacking your protection (as well as any semblance of self-preservation instincts of her own), will soon perish as well.
2:19 - I'm rather proud of this one. I found a way to get to the later half of the level early without universal wall clip!
After becoming trapped, turn around and go to the back-right corner of the room. There's some debris there. After jumping on it, doing attacks or running towards the corner can slip Heinrich through to OoB. If you manage to do this without falling to the bottom of the map... which is damn hard... you can do the combo launcher attack to get some air time and leap over the gap in the way.
I guess you could continue playing onward in the level from this point on, although I didn't try it because back then I thought this was another dead end too. I still didn't know that activating Knight's Fury teleports Gretchen to your side.
But even if it worked, it's extremely difficult to do and it's already obsolete by the universal wall clip tactic for skipping this level.
2:52 - during some tests I ended up in a situation where Gretchen was dying somewhere far away from Heinrich, but the game over sequence could be interrupted by examining an "examine" prompt. You're basically screwed if something like this happens - examining the prompt only delays the inevitable.
3:37 - what happens if you activate a cinematic cutscene (the fade-out of which does not make you lose control) and fall to bottom of the map at same time? You get a game over of course! However, the game over screen is invisible and behind a seemingly endless loading screen. It can be activated like normal, though, so the game isn't softlocked or anything. Things are back to normal after retry.
4:30 - I was curious, so I sought a way to return back to Episode 18 area from the start of Episode 19. It's just barely possible by breaching a wall at a specific point and blowing yourself up over a chasm with Spirit Cannon.
Well, most of Episode 18 doesn't exist at the moment. The level only extends up to few rooms in, after which there's just unloaded nothingness.
