With the lanterns we have bought, we light up the top of the village walls today! It is one place where hostile mobs could spawn and enter the village, but one that is easily forgotten about when lighting up the area. We also start to build the planned bridge that crosses over a narrow part of the the village lake!

Part 1 of the Caves & Cliffs update was just released an hour ago! We will be updating our Minecraft world very soon, do stay tuned! For this episode, we are still on 1.16.5 though!

After entering our world, we glide down from the stone platform and land near the site of the future bridge! We pick up some stone from our storage chests and lengthen the span of the bridge. We are planning to have an arch under the bridge, so we would be able to afford a longer span!

The site of the bridge is also right beside one end of the village wall! We go back to the storage area to look for our lanterns but it turns out that they were in our inventory the entire time. On the edge of the wall, we start placing down lanterns every 5 blocks!

We do a little measurement of the change in light levels as we place down the lanterns, before determining that a 5-block interval will make the wall completely mob-proof. I guess spiders could still climb over the wall, but at least they would not be spawning anywhere next to it!

Once we are done with the lanterns, we return to bridge construction! For easy crafting of slabs and stairs, we craft a stonecutter. It is also cheaper to use the stonecutter for crafting stairs than it is to use the crafting table!

We place the stonecutter on the other side of the bridge to prevent any villagers from picking the stonecutter as their job site block! Normally it would not be an issue, but we don't want the villagers to interfere with our construction work!

After sleeping for the night, we spot an eager villager swimming across the river to get to the stonecutter! We quickly run over and remove the block. Once we are done with the village upgrading, rest assured that we will provide proper workshops and buildings for the unemployed villagers!

For the bridge, we decide to use spruce planks for the road and andesite for the support structure! We layer some spruce plank slabs and andesite slabs onto the placeholder stone blocks. Andesite slabs and stairs are used to form an arch going across the water! Once we are happy with the design, we remove the placeholder blocks.

We fly up to the tall spruce trees to take a look at the bridge from a distance. The section of road after the bridge will be built on land that slopes down towards the lake, so we start to place down some polished andesite columns to act as embankments!

Between the two andesite arches, we form a wide arch of spruce planks for more support! We run out of spruce wood however, and we decide to harvest some from the tops of the spruce trees. We don't need too much since we still have supplies of spruce wood in our storage chests!

We sleep for the night again before working on the other end of the spruce arch. Since we don't want the foundations of our bridge to be built on unstable sand, we dig away some blocks to expose the stone underneath before filling the hole with stone.

Once we have built the spruce plank arch and the spruce plank road above it, we use some light grey stained glass as safety barriers for the bridge, placed on top of the polished andesite. We chose to use light grey stained glass since we have already used it for the barriers of the other roads that go over water!

We end the episode standing beside some hay bales, looking at our new bridge as an iron golem tries it out! It is still not fully completed however, since we are missing the barriers for the stairs at the two ends of the bridge.
