Late-Game Minecraft 205 :: Plains Road Digging - Part 1
Today we begin digging out the dirt for a new road going to the plains village! We plan to build this road from the village to the existing road between the mountain base and savannah base. The road goes through a small patch of forest near the walls of the village before it reaches some grassy plains!
We collect some saplings from the decaying birch leaves of the tree we chopped yesterday! Then, we start to dig out a path towards the plains. We have to chop down another oak tree that is too close to the road! Our scaffolding tower will probably have to be moved too.
Further away from the village wall, we take down another birch and another oak tree while being careful not to affect the other trees! We do not want the road to be flanked by ugly-looking trees with only half their leaves, or with extra floating leaves from trees that had already been cut down!
At our chest area in the village, we craft a new double chest which will come in handy for storing the dirt and grass we dig up! We don't place it with the other chests however. Instead, we plan on placing it near the area where we will be digging out dirt for greater convenience!
Since we placed one of our torches on a tree trunk, we only have 63 torches left! We replace a torch in a villager's house with a lantern so we have a full stack of torches again. Not sure why it is the small things like not having full stacks of items that irritate me! Anyway, the lantern should be an indulgent upgrade to the torch for the lucky owner of the house!
At first, we replace the torch above the door with a lantern hanging from a spruce fence, but later we decide to go with the torch inside the house instead! We sleep for the night before placing the spruce fence next to a path at the south of the village, where we can use it to secure a horse with a lead.
Afterwards, we continue to work on the road! We dig out the dirt until we are clear of the forest, curving the road slightly to avoid the trees. Just outside the forest, we place down our chest and a crafting table! We also craft the two shears together to save inventory space without losing durability, after a few unsuccessful attempts to do so!
We dig for a bit more before flying up to the top of the spruce trees within the village. Since we use spruce planks as a filler block, we chop down the spruce trees and store the wood in our new chest. The sun is setting so we sleep in the plains before carrying on with the digging!
The dug section of the road is lengthened all the way up to the bottom of a small hill! Back at the village wall, we build another scaffolding tower to look at the road from afar. So far, the road seems quite smooth! We notice some floating tall grass and flowers above a naturally generated lake, but decide not to remove them just yet.
In the village, our birch tree beside the lake has grown and we pick up a birch log to replace the dirt block under it! Then, we work on getting the road up the hill. We have to adjust the height of the land a little so that the road is not too steep!
The road meets with a small freshwater lake! We use spruce planks to fill up the lake and remove the water. The next day, we dig down from the lake as we keep hearing the popping sounds of lava, and discover an underground lava lake directly beneath our feet!
Our time is running short so we attempt to return to the top of the scaffolding column to end the episode. We keep trying to land on it and miss every time! After taking a lot of fall damage, we simply decide to take the slower but safer way by climbing up from the ground.
