Late-Game Minecraft 198 :: Upgrading the Final Village Path
Our village upgrading project reaches a major milestone! Today we transform the last grass path left in the village to a spruce plank road, something that we have already done for all the other paths. The last path is quite long however, stretching across the entire length of the village!
Last episode, we were lowering the height of a farm plot in the south of town! Today we use a piston to bring down the final block, which is a composter that is being used as a job site block by a farmer. Using a piston ensures that we do not lose the compost inside!
The path we are working on today starts at the same farm plot in the south, and goes all the way to the north of the village! We have already dug out all the grass path blocks that is beside the farm plot, so we merely have to fill in the space with spruce planks and stripped spruce logs. We walk along the entire length of the path and remove the tall grass that would be in the way of the road.
We head to our storage area to pick up more spruce planks and craft some spruce slabs. While heading back to the path, we notice two pools of water in the village that are quite close to each other! We join them to form a bigger pool by digging away the sand and grass in between.
When we return to the path, we start digging away all the grass path blocks! The sun sets and we sleep for the night before continuing to place the spruce planks and stripped logs. While trying to craft spruce slabs, we accidentally craft some spruce trapdoors instead, oops!
Come to think of it, why do 6 planks give only 2 trapdoors, which have even less combined volume than a single wooden slab? The same amount of planks can be used to craft 14 slabs which is a huge difference! Are we getting scammed by our crafting tables?
Anyway, we fly over to the mountain base to do some villager trading because we are low on lanterns! Although we could trade in the very same village we are working on, it is more profitable to trade at the mountain base since the villagers there offer us huge discounts! We also have better access to our farms and our storage system.
Our villagers give us discounts to express their gratitude as we had cured them previously! I guess they must have forgotten that we were also the ones that purposely left them trapped together with a zombie in the first place! After trading, we immediately return to the coastal plains village.
While flying back, we see a villager outside the village fence! We are not sure how he got out, but we suspect he jumped on the lanterns that we had placed beside the wall before the wall was removed. We hastily remove any lanterns that one could potentially use to escape the village!
Returning to the task at hand, we continue work on the path! We also do a little terraforming to make sure the path follows the curves of the land. We even build a small side path to a house that does not face towards the main path!
For the second night, we place down our bed and sleep near the side path after placing more lanterns to light up the area. The next day, we go over to the north of the village to build the other end of the path! The two sections are parallel but not aligned with each other, so we have to build a diagonal section to link the entire path together.
The diagonal section goes up in height as it turns away from the coast, intersecting with another diagonal path that we had previously built! The other path goes from the central fountain to the farm plot at the northwest corner of the village, so having the new intersection would make the path network more connected!
Digging away the path blocks for the remaining section of the path, we expose the caves underneath the village! We cover up the caves before any villagers fall inside. To ensure the path remains flat, we dig away the side of a small hill that the path passes through. We take care to replace any flowers or grass that are on the hillside so the landscape still looks natural!
The last thing to do is to place down the spruce wood for the path! As night is falling, we sleep yet again before completing the diagonal section of the path on the third day. For the rest of the episode, we place down lanterns to light up the area around the path!
With our Elytra, we fly up into the sky to take a good look at the village before we end the video. We land on top of one of the houses and place down lanterns since it is dark enough for hostile enemies to spawn in the night!
