Stardew Valley 184 :: Iridium and Radioactive Ore
It is the ideal day to complete the Skull Cavern Invasion quest, since we have very good luck today! We also find many shafts and treasure chests in the mines. After we complete the quest, we still have some time left so we venture even deeper to bomb the iridium ore nodes and the radioactive ore nodes!
There are some tasks to do on the farm, including tending to the indoor garden and petting the animals! We forget to harvest our tea leaves, but it is not a big loss for us. At the smelting area, we put the furnaces to work with some iridium ore and coal!
We pick mushrooms at the mushroom cave, then collect our fish pond produce and interact with all our animals! Their food is running low but we can still afford to refill the stores of hay tomorrow. We get our first bottle of milk from our youngest cow, Mango! It goes into the cheese press since its quality is not that good!
At the farmhouse, we pick up our standard mining equipment. We make more triple shot espressos in our kitchen before using the desert obelisk to get to the Skull Cavern! Along the way, we forage for some cactus fruit, which we leave in the chest at the entrance of the cavern before entering.
On the first few levels, we manage to find staircases quite easily! We start using them on level 4 after getting assaulted by a few royal serpents though. On floor 7, we find our first radioactive ore node and our first mineshaft! The shaft brings us down the maximum amount of 15 floors, which is a very good start to this Skull Cavern run!
We find our first treasure chest on floor 25, but it gives us a disappointing reward of 20 wheat seeds! We did find a lot of ore on the previous level though! Here's a useful tip, the rocks in a treasure room have a very high chance of spawning a shaft when broken, but once they spawn a ladder no more shafts can appear!
No shafts appear on floor 25, but we do find two radioactive ore nodes on floor 26! With the Crusader enchantment on our Galaxy Hammer, the purple mummies in the dangerous Skull Cavern are surprisingly easy to deal with. Unlike the last time we got the Skull Cavern Invasion quest, this time we complete the quest on our first try without any deaths!
On floor 32, we find our first prismatic shard as a drop from a mummy! The napalm ring comes in very useful on floor 34, where it helps us to destroy three radioactive ore nodes! A shaft on floor 34 also brings us down 8 levels. So far, things are going really well! On floor 49, we find another free shaft that lets us skip 7 levels.
We find our second prismatic shard after bombing a large cluster of ore on floor 56. On the next floor, we see our first iridium bat of the day! We are starting to have inventory space issues, but lucky for us the iridium trash can recoups some gold from all the items we throw away!
Already on floor 64, we find that iridium ore nodes are becoming quite common! Our third prismatic shard drops from a royal serpent, and we place down some mega bombs to get all the iridium! We start placing down staircases more frequently as it is beginning to get late in the day.
Soon, we make it to floor 80, slaying quite a few mummies and ghosts along the way! There are many iridium bats and iridium nodes here, but our Galaxy Hammer and mega bombs take care of both of them! We jump down a shaft to find a treasure room with a purple slime egg, an item we have not seen before!
We are almost at our goal! At floor 89, we find a shaft that unexpectedly brings us down all the way to floor 100, where we collect our reward for completing Skull Cavern Invasion! Immediately after that, we find a treasure chest on floor 101 with four life elixirs!
Even after we complete the quest, the Skull Cavern seems to still be in a more dangerous state! We continue finding a lot of shafts as well. If only we had such luck with the mineshafts every time we came to the Skull Cavern, we would be swimming in iridium ore!
Past floor 100, we no longer benefit much from going deeper so we slow down to explore the various levels! We try to collect any gold ore, iridium ore, and radioactive ore we find as well. On floor 110, we find a crystalarium in a treasure chest! That is effectively worth 5 gold bars and 1 iridium bar!
Eventually, we pass out on level 117 with slightly more than 200 iridium ore and 6 prismatic shards. What a good Skull Cavern run that was! We could have used our staircases to descend rapidly and probably find more iridium, but our main objective was always to complete Mister Qi's quest without dying!
