Late-Game Minecraft 260 :: Hostile Mobs Beneath the Base
Across the river, we start planning for our next big project! We want to excavate a big square of stone for a future mob farm, so we bring out our beacon. We are digging downwards to place our beacon when we break into cave systems full of mobs! I guess our base was not as mob-proof as we had thought.
We pick up some stone and fill in the gaps beneath the walls of the second floor! Then, we build a circle of sea lanterns for the ledge overlooking the moss garden. There are some gaps in the ceiling, which we fill with polished andesite before sleeping for the night!
At our chests, we craft some light-grey stained glass panes! We use the panes to form a railing, so we can look down into the moss garden without falling over. Harvesting the honeycomb, we see some bees buzzing around near the ocean!
Next, we take out our beacon from the Ender chest! We harvest some sugar canes beside the stream of axolotls and dive in to swim around with them. Then, we head across the river to look for a suitable location for our new mob farm!
Flying up into the sky, we look down at the terrain beneath us. The land here is quite rough, with many cave entrances! Nevertheless, we pick a spot at the top of a small hill facing our base to be the corner of the building. We start digging out a square perimeter for the mob farm!
We need the farm to be 21 blocks in width and height, so we count the blocks carefully as we dig them up! The hilly terrain and the caves make it more difficult to measure distances though. As we dig out the last edge, the sky is getting dark so we sleep to skip the night!
Once we have completed our square, we count the length of its sides to ensure that the square is truly of the correct size! We fly up to look at the area from above. Then, we find the block at the centre of the square and start digging downwards!
To avoid having any accidents, we stand in the middle of two blocks as we mine downwards! It is not long before we hear a zombie! Strange, we were quite sure that we had explored all the caves in the area! I guess there are still some unlit caves, which seems like bad news for our mob farm!
Hearing the sounds of bats as well, we mine a bit more and find ourselves in an unexplored cave! As we run away from a creeper, we unintentionally cause a skeleton to shoot at it and it drops a music disc! Many more mobs emerge from the darkness!
After an Enderman attacks us, we get quite low on health! Exploring the caves further, we find an underground lake with some axolotls swimming around. We still hear the sounds of a zombie, so we mine downwards from the lake to look for more caves!
It turns out that the sounds were actually coming from above! We mine a staircase upwards and dig out some gravel. Seeing some dirt, we suspect that the sounds may be coming from the surface! We place down our bed and sleep in it so that the sun shines again.
In the morning, we still hear the zombies and skeletons! Digging around a bit more, we break into a small unlit cave segment. We find some copper ore as well! Then, we head back to the underground lake and continue lighting up the cave.
After lighting up all the dark spots, we realise that this isolated cave system that we had found is actually quite small! We are quite lucky to have found it, as it may have affected the rates of our future mob farm.
We fly up back to the surface, as we are no longer sure which tile of the 2-block wide hole is the centre of the square! After measuring the distance to the sides of the square, we place down a glass block over the other tile, leaving the centre of the square the only block with direct access to the sky!
Continuing to dig downwards, we hear a spider and a zombie! Could there be another unlit cave in the area? Mining another block below us, we see a cave with a deepslate floor! We fall into the cave and see creepers closing in on us from both sides! Guess that was a bad idea!
With the Knockback enchantment on our sword and some quick reflexes, we manage to avoid getting blown up! A creeper does go off but we are shielded from the explosion by some andesite jutting out from the wall. Judging by the amount of mobs in these caves, our future mob farm should be quite effective!
After slaying a few more mobs, we light up the caves! Behind a lava lake, we find a pair of creepers! Some Endermen have also spawned in the tunnels here. We make it to a dead end with a water stream where we organise our inventory and end the episode!
