Late-Game Minecraft 262 :: Mining Layers of Stone
With the Haste II buff from our beacon, we start hacking away at the stone blocks! We plan to build an underground mob farm here, hence we need to clear some space. While we mine away the layers of stone, we cut into various explored caves, and find a decent amount of coal, copper and iron ore!
We pick up our trusty Netherite pickaxe and begin hitting the rocks! It quickly turns to night so we set down our bed to sleep. After a short while, our inventory fills up with stone blocks so we place down our Shulker boxes for more storage space!
Flying back to the area of chests, we craft another double chest to store all our stone! Now that we have more storage space, we organise our chests to make sure that we can find things easily. We keep all the dirt and grass blocks in one chest, and all the drops from hostile mobs in another!
Taking a break from mining, we head back to our deepslate base. We clear away the glow berry vines and craft a new pair of shears to harvest some honeycomb! We also release a bee from the spruce boat. Then, we pick up some spruce saplings to plant on the podzol in the ocean.
Returning to the mining area, we continue removing another layer of stone! We expose some caves but they seem to already be explored. We begin to remove the dirt and other stone variants from the walls of the hole that we are digging, so we can replace them with normal stone!
After sleeping for the night, we carry on with the removal of stone. Using the debug screen, we see that we are still above y-level 50 so we have a long way to go! As we break blocks, we fill up our Shulker box with resources.
We uncover a small staircase that we had made when we were looking for the source of some zombie noises! Going down the staircase, we find ourselves in a small chamber. There is a bit of gravel left on the walls so we dig it up with our shovel!
At the end of the day, we have gathered almost two full Shulker boxes of blocks, and made it down to y-level 52! We have also found ores like coal, copper and iron. The andesite, diorite and granite are useful building blocks too!
We sleep for the night and mine out the current layer fully before flying up to our chests. We fill an entire double chest with stone blocks, so we craft another double chest! We also find that we possess more than a stack of iron ore and copper ore! Nice.
Though we have made good progress, there is still a lot more digging to do! Breaking into some caves that we had found while mining out the hole for the beacon beam, we add more torches to the tunnels so that we can be absolutely sure that no hostile mobs can spawn!
We make a staircase out of the caves to get back to the bottom of our square hole, where we continue mining away the blocks. Before we mine the next layer, we toss all of our items into a Shulker box! We notice that mining a single layer tends to fill up all the empty slots in our inventory.
Uncovering a gravel deposit, we dig out all the gravel and fill in the hole with stone! Gravel is a very useful block for building as it can be crafted into concrete, and we have so much stone that we don't know what to do with it! We could also get gravel from Piglin trading, but gold is rare in our world!
Maybe one day we will set up a gold farm so that we can buy many items from the Piglins! We fly up to the chests and empty our inventory and our Shulker boxes. The sun is setting, and we sleep for the fourth night this episode!
In the morning, we fly over to the storage area outside our deepslate base! Here, we pick up some spruce wood which we craft into two chests before ending the episode. The beehives are all overflowing with honey so we should collect the honeycomb from them soon!
