Late-Game Minecraft 263 :: A Deep Square Hole
Continuing the excavation work for the mob farm, we remove the stone until we are at y-level 39! Based on our measurements, this should be deep enough for our needs! Since our Netherite pickaxe is extremely low on durability, we mine with the first-ever diamond pickaxe that we had crafted in our world instead!
First, we snip away some spare honeycomb from the beehives! We pick up our first diamond pickaxe and harvest some sugar canes beside the axolotl stream. After a quick swim, we cross the river to get to our mining area!
Checking the y-level of the hole, we mine away the stone with our Netherite pickaxe! We can still use the tool for a while before we are forced to mend it. A while later, we realise that we forgot to place down the chests that we had crafted yesterday!
We fly out of the hole and walk over to the storage area to place down the new double chest. Since we are already at the chests, we also take the chance to clear our inventory before resuming our mining operations.
At the bottom of the square hole, we tear through the blocks with our Netherite pickaxe! We are exposing a lot of caves at the current level we are mining at, including an underground lake, but they are all explored so it is not an issue!
Using some stone, we block off the underground lake and remove the water source blocks! We would not want our hole to be flooded as it would make the mining much slower. The Netherite pickaxe may look low on durability, but it takes a while before the durability bar turns completely black!
We fly out of the hole to see a magnificent sunset in the distance! Storing away the stone that we had collected, we lay down our bed and sleep for the night. We also store our Netherite pickaxe in the chest, as we do not want to accidentally use it and end up breaking the tool!
In the morning, we grab our diamond pickaxe Superbreaker and proceed with the digging! Although it is not made of Netherite, with Haste II and Efficiency V, we mine the stone blocks at the exact same speed. Seeing a stone block fall into the beacon beam hole, we float down to the bottom to retrieve it!
We use our Elytra to get back out, taking a bit of damage on the wall of the pit! While mining the current layer, we accidentally make a hole in the side of the underground lake and we plug it in with some stone. Checking the debug screen, we are now at y-level 43. Only 4 more layers to go!
Before the end of the day, we manage to fill an entire Shulker box with blocks! Mining out an iron vein, we find some copper ore behind and mine it as well. So far, we are making very good progress! The sun is setting and we have just two layers to go!
We float down to the beacon pyramid and place our bed down to sleep. In the morning, we fly up to the chests where we store all of our blocks! I'm not sure why we have much more granite than the other stone variants, but we could always sell the blocks to some stonemason villagers!
Returning to the bottom of the square hole, a stone block falls down the beacon beam and we glide down to retrieve it! Afterwards, we mine away the final two layers! At the bottom of the hole, we mine away all the ore on the ground and replace it with normal stone so that the floor looks uniform.
Since dirt is also harder to get than stone, we dig out a deposit of dirt and fill in the space with stone! We also remove the andesite, diorite and granite. Flying out of the hole, we look down and see a nice and clean pit with normal stone on all sides!
Heading into a cave entrance, we remove a torch that is sticking out into the square hole! We also mine some exposed ore veins in the caves, while adding more torches to prevent mob spawning. In survival, you can never be too stingy with torch placement!
Flying out of the caves, we land at the storage area to keep our items and sleep for the night. Our chest of ores and stone variants is almost completely full! We look down into the square hole that we made with much hard work, and end the episode for the day.
