Today we are building the Lego Ideas #52 Orient Express set #21344, with 2,540 pieces. This is the final Ideas set of the year, as well as the final set of the year too. Before we dive too deep in todays build, we begin with our four Lego advent calendars (Harry Potter, Marvel, and 2022 & 2023 Star Wars) for the 7th and 8th days of Christmas. This was a set I really was looking forward to ever since I built the Hogwarts Express. This set is surrounded by many of controversies, number 1 being that it should have been motorized. The second is how far it deviates from the original idea. The 3rd is all the quality control issues with the set. I personally do not know much about the original Orient Express in Lego or life but this looks like an amazing model known the less. Unboxing the set we find 23 bags, 1 book, and 2 sticker sheets. Building the set was pretty simple, and did not have much repetition. The first two bags built the train line, the next 6 build the first car, then another 6 built the second car, another 2 built the coal car, and the final 5 built the engine. The engine and coal car have good detail, but are pretty much what’s expected in a train build of this sort. The first car features fine dining and a bar, which is very cleanly detailed, then the second car features the sleeping and bathing quarters. We do get a nice array of minifigures with the set from reporters, to passengers, and train operators. I do recommend this set to any collector, but I think it needs to be known, that if you are on the fence, definitely wait for an Insiders sale to buy. I think 300 is a pinch high, but you quickly forget the cost while building and enjoying the set. As always please comment your thoughts down below.
