While getting through the maze is a challenge all its own, progressing to the next level requires more than just navigating through the portals in the correct order. You may not remember this because we did so in chapter two, but we found a sceptre on this level that’s missing some jewels. If we’re to progress to the fourth floor, we need to get all of those jewels and reassemble the sceptre so that it’s magic will function properly.

We already have a couple of the jewels but the final one can only be gained at the very end of the maze. How you choose to go about doing that is up to you, but it’s one of the instances where I really wouldn’t recommend combat. I say that not because the battle would be unbeatable – tricky, certainly, but it’s certainly doable – but to make sure you don’t miss out on an awesome part of the game where you get to mess about with a powerful magical artefact. It’s one that every D&D party hopes they come across and also dreads coming across, such is its unpredictable power. Veterans of the game will know exactly what I’m referring to and for those who don’t, all will soon become clear.
