To all those thinking of watching this video: Things get very bleak very quickly in this one. Viewer discretion is advised.

Edna and Harvey have split up, each searching a different part of the house for Mattis. If they can find him, they’ll be able to keep an eye on him and discover once and for all what really happened on that fateful day which changed everything forever. Edna hopes that this will prove her father’s innocence at last, though Harvey is starting to have his doubts. What if Mattis really did do what everyone says he did? What if the truth they find is as horrible as they’ve been warned it is? Does Edna even have the truth still locked away in her memories?

It’s time to find out the truth.

What can I say about Edna & Harvey: The Breakout save that it’s my Game of the Year for 2019? I had no idea what to expect coming into it, buying it on a whim from a store for just £2 but my, am I so happy I went with this game instead of the other one I was considering that I’ve forgotten the name of. This game is everything I want in a point and click adventure game and so much more. The plot was engaging, the puzzles were interesting and not too difficult, not to mention the super catchy music. I loved learning about the characters – especially Edna and Harvey themselves – and the item interaction, oh the item interactions. This is the first game I’ve found where seeking out interactions everywhere is rewarded with unique dialogue and man, do I LOVE that. In my opinion, every point and click adventure game should do what this one did, though I understand that the sheer volume of extra dialogue would prevent people from doing so. While it meant I went through the game quite a bit slower than most people would, I loved doing so all the more because of it. The game isn’t without fault, of course, though those faults are minor: it did crash a couple of times and some dialogue appeared to be completely missing, plus there were a couple of graphical errors, but I imagine all of those will be solved in the 10th anniversary edition that’s coming out soon. Provided they keep the character dialogue unaltered, I’ll be very likely to get that version too. This really makes me want to play the sequel but not just yet… not yet...

If you like point and click adventure games, you owe it to yourself to play this game. It’s a wonderful journey that’s super fun and even though I played through it finding most of the hidden things, you’ll surely uncover a bundle of things I didn’t and that’s the joy of a game like this.

So, what’s next? After such a long game, I feel it’s time to play something a little shorter to give me time to think on what to do next. Fortunately for me, there are plenty of games that fit the bill and I think it’s time we check up on a favourite character of ours and see how their little project is coming on. While I hope for the sake of all of humanity that they’re not making headway, we all know that’s not the case. I’d tell you to run and hide, but that wouldn’t save you.

See you next let’s play!
