This is a blind playthrough. Kindly avoid posting spoilers in the comments or solutions to puzzles either in this video or future ones so as not to spoil the experience for me or those that haven’t seen the game before.

The game has done an excellent job of building up the suspense as we’ve gotten closer to the soldiers moving the facility but it’s plain to see that they’re not on our side. The countermeasures they’ve deployed may have been useful against the attacking aliens but we all know that they’re actually aimed at us and everyone else that works in Black Mesa. Far from rescuing us, they’re out to make sure nobody escapes to tell the world what just happened which is bad for our long term survival.

I’m sceptical that the marines actually have the power to stop the aliens, whatever their scheme happens to be, seen as they’re armed with conventional weapons and are finite in number. We don’t know how many other aliens there are nor how many of them there are, but it’s safe to presume that it’s only a matter of time before there are too many of them. The marines would be better served working with the Black Mesa scientists and security team to try and stop the invasion before it gets worse but they have their orders and they’re stubbornly sticking to them, which means we’re going to be putting our hazard course training to the best against some opponents who employ strategy.
