Skara Brae was founded after the destruction of Exodus and quickly became devoted to the virtue of Spirituality. At the time of the Stranger's quest of avatarhood, a strange monumnet called the Ankh of Spirituality was there that was capable of speech. Shamino called the place home and it was here that the stranger met him once again - they'd first met met while Shamino was a king in the time of Mondain and again in a bar in Montor West during Exodus's tyranny - and recruited him to his party.

The town suffered under Blackthorn's rule as all others did but returned to being a peaceful settment by time of war with the gargoyles. Then there was the terrible reign of Horance, a powerful magician who went mad and turned to lichdom. The desperate attempts of the townsfolk to return his humanity backfired due to a terrible accident, resulting in the total destruction of the town. By the time the Avatar arrived during the time of the Fellowship, the only residents were Horance and the many troubled souls that once called the place home. Through the actions of the Avatar, they were finally able to find peace.

Over the next twenty years, the supersituations suyrrounding the island faded and the town was rebuilt, this time protected by the watchful gaze of the Sentinel, a large stone effigy. They were even able to resist the corrupting effects of columns, retaining their virtue in defiance of the Guardian. This cost them their lives, however, for the Guardian razed the settlement to show the Avatar how outmatched he truly was, leaving nothing but desolation, sand and a surprisingly large amount of crabs.

Now the Avatar steps foot on the desolate sands of the island in search not only of a way to the shrine of spirtuality but a way to return his friend Shamino back to Britannia, for surely it is here that his link to the world is strongest.
