Let’s Play Ultima IX #91: Spell Binding and the Book of Truth
133It’s safe to that that we’re in a bit of a bind right now, what with Lord British heading off to the Abyss to face Blackthorn in our stead and having no way to reach the shrine of spirituality on account of needing a moongate to do so. We need to cleanse the shrine to make the moongate to the shrine functional but we can’t do that without the moongate itself. Lord British was able to get there thanks to the gate ritual, a powerful spell that only he can cast on account of his mastery of magic. Then there’s the Isle of the Avatar which has been rendered invisible to mortal eyes, though that one should be a little easier to solve on account of it not having moved since our last time here. Finding it isn’t the same as navigating it, however.
Once again we’re being told that we must urgently progress the plot but, just like before, there’s no actual need to be hasty. Unlike in Ultima V, nothing bad will happen to Lord British if we spent ages wasting time in Britannia, so let’s take care of all our bookkeeping before we head off to Skara Brae. We have spells to bind, our inventory to sort out and a very important item to recover from Moonglow which we’re going to need very soon. Grabbing it now saves us a little time and reveals a bit of onimous foreshadowing to the most absurd part of Ultima IX’s plot. I’ll say no more about to save that it’s as silly as you think it is and then some.
