While we could head to Skara Brae right now, we’re missing something very important that we’ll need there. Getting it now isn’t strictly required but it does save us some backtracking, for we’ll quickly be told that we need it and two other very important things to progress the game. Those important things are the items of principle and, as luck would have it, we already have two of them: the candle of love we found in Empath Abbey on our way to the dungeon Wrong while we only recently grabbed the Book of the Truth from the Lycaeum. The final of the three is the bell of courage and it is located in Serpent’s Hold.

Unfortunately for us, Serpent’s Hold sunk beneath the waves during the Cataclysm, meaning that it’s very unlikely you’ll stumble across it randomly, doubly so as it’s nowhere near the mainland. Fortunately for us, its general location hasn’t really changed since the earlier Ultima games, allowing someone with knowledge of the setting to make an educated guess as to where to start looking. The game will tell you where to look once you reach the point that it’s needed but let’s beat it to the punch and find it ourselves. It’s only a submerged fortress full of peril and doom, how hard can it be to find a bell in it?
