Let’s Play Edna & Harvey: The Breakout #12: Taking a Break from Puzzle Solving
160Examining everything and using everything on everything can be very tiring work for a point and click adventure game protagonist and so rarely do they get the chance to put their feet up and relax. Fortunately for Edna, the place she’s trapped in has a room the staff normally use when on break to prepare food and forget about their work for just a few minutes. You’d normally want to avoid a place like that when trying to sneak out of somewhere, but the only person on this floor is Bladder so we can safely take a breather in there and collect our thoughts.
Even in a room designed for taking it easy however, the player of a point and click adventure game will be thinking the same thought as they do appearing in any new place; is there anything here that’s a danger to me? Is there anything I can pick up? Is there a puzzle to solve or people to talk to? What are the chances I’ll never be able to come back here if I get to a point of no return? Most important of all those queries however is how many ways can we use the paper cup to solve all of the above. The answer to that question most likely won’t surprise you.
Many years of games like this will make such questions second nature and having the ability to highlight everything in the room at the press of a button helps immensely in answering these thoughts. It does mean that we don’t get to rest even when Edna does, but such is the lot of guiding our protagonist to safety, eh?
