Do you remember the level where we had to sneak past a teleporter to get to the end? It was an intriguing mechanic that would challenge you to move with finesse, a task which would be made all the more difficult if smiloids were attacking you at the same time. Unfortunately, it hasn’t reappeared since we saw it in that level. We also haven’t had a level with as little time to complete it as the one where the game was telling us of what happens if we ran out of time. Those are just two mechanics that could’ve been used a lot more often but haven’t been, a missed opportunity to add challenge that doesn’t come from making versions of enemies that take more hits to be defeated.

The armour we’ve been gaining goes some way to help us survive, but different buffs would’ve made that prospect more interesting. Imagine if the game gave us a piercing shot that went through multiple smiloids or an emergency camouflage that activates once you’re on your last hit for a few seconds so you can escape. Things like that would go a long way to mitigating the foes whose only real danger is that you can never win against them trading shots because they shoot faster than you and can close the distance in seconds.

At this moment, the most persistent smiloids we’ve faced are the guards and rovers, but there is one that outclasses all of them in terms of speed, firepower and toughness. Some say that this smiloid is so quick that they appear out of nowhere and, once they’ve defeated you, disappear as quickly as they arrived. Who are these mysterious enemies and can we defeat them before we run out of our sizeable stack of lives?

Probably, but they might make a significant dent in that stockpile before the game is done.
