Let’s Play HC Minecraft Take Three #08: ...But None as Rich as This

I spoke last time of all the things you’ll want to find when mining, but there are three I didn’t mention which are the true prizes of underground excursions. The first of these are emeralds that spawn in single blocks very rarely. They are the currency used by villagers and wanderings traders, allowing to buy resources that would otherwise be finite. While you can get a steady supply of these by selling goods to a village, mining up more of them is always a good thing.
Then there are underground dungeons which contain monster spawners. These spawn monsters quickly and can pose a serious threat to your mining efforts but typically guard treasure chests containing valuable loot. This loot can range from the mundane things like gold and coal to rare finds like certain seeds, vinyl records, horse armour and enchanted books and items. They’re always worth checking out when you find one.
Last but not least, there’s diamond. Diamond is one of the few non-renewable items in the game and the only material used to make equipment that is finite. It spawns in veins deep below the ground and can also be found in strongholds, dungeons and chests by monster spawners, as well as very rarely in generated villages. It’s used to make the strongest equipment in the game as well as the enchantment table and the record player, making it a highly sought out resource. Finding enough of it to make a diamond pickaxe is a huge milestone but its rarity can make that first encounter with it take a long time indeed. Don’t get disheartened if you you don’t find any quickly. Your luck will turn eventually.
