Let's Play Mega Man 2 (Difficult Mode) - Part 7: Destroy All of the Machines
It's finally time to take down Dr. Wily and finish the game, after beating all of the Robot Masters a second time. And since it's the rematch stage, I did decide to use special weapons against them, though I didn't use Metal Man's own weapon against him, didn't manage to do much with Flash Man's weakness, and just used the buster against Wily's first two forms since I couldn't remember if he took extra damage from anything except the Crash Bomb. (Looking it up, it seems that a fully-charged Atomic Fire will also work on the first phase, but I didn't have enough of that left anyway.) Crash Bombs also do decent damage to Quick Man, but again, I didn't have enough weapon energy left for that anyway. For the final boss, you need to use Bubble Lead; every other weapon will just heal him back to full. (And yes, it is possible to make this battle unwinnable if you come in without at least half your Bubble Lead energy left; while I've never had it happen to me that I recall, if it does, you'll need to get a Game Over and restart the stage.) At least the boss is very pattern-based.
And with that, we've finished Mega Man 2. It was rather fun revisiting this game, the first game I ever played on this channel. I will say, though, that I've really begun to realize that the level design kind of leaves something to be desired...there really aren't that many good levels in this game, but there are a couple annoying ones and quite a few that are either too barren or too poorly paced to be all that great. I also don't find the soundtrack to be anything special, not bad, but again, outclassed by a lot of the other games. I do like Mega Man 2, and it beats the heck out of a lot of games from the same era (both for difficulty and design), but it's probably my third-least favorite game in the series after 1 and 3. But we are finished with it, for the second time even, so let us move on to greater things. (And a better audio setup...I seriously have to do something about that...) See you next game!
