Let's Play Mega Man Maker - #01: Make Your Own Mega Man Level (Tutorial)
68Welcome to my Let's Play of Mega Man Maker, a Mega Man Classic fangame that allows you to design and share your own Mega Man levels online for others to play. This was developed by WreckingPrograms and their team, and was released early today. Think of this as Mario Maker, but for Mega Man.
This fangame can divided into two portions: the level editor, and browsing for other player creations.
The level editor is powerful enough to create a variety of stages. In this editor, players have access to 46 enemies, 29 level objects, 12 bosses, 24 special weapons, 40 backgrounds, 129 tilesets, 63 music tracks, and more! With these tools, players can design traditional levels, long levels, challenge levels, puzzle levels, kaizo levels, automatic levels, etc. Plus, unlike Mario Maker, there's no size or object limit for stages. Sure, the level editor is rather limited in several areas where Mario Maker isn't. But still, this allows for a ton of stages to be made. And the devs have promised to add more assets to this editor in the near future.
The level browser allows players to search for levels based on name, ID, rating, date uploaded (newest or oldest), or number of plays. There are no level playlists like in Mario Maker yet. Or stuff like the "10 Mario" or "100 Mario" challenges. I would love to see something like those in the future. But, as it stands right now, the level browser is functional and works well enough for finding and playing user-made stages.
The developers have announced plans of adding assets and features from MM7 and beyond. So, expect this fangame to grow in terms of functionality in the future.
In this part, I go through the detailed tutorial on how to use the level editor. The next several parts will be dedicated to playing through the various user-made levels. Eventually, I will have some parts dedicated to designing my own stages, or discussing level design using the editor. One thing's for certain though, this will be a LONG running LP.
