Let's Try Eliosi's Hunt (Demo)
4Here's my Let's Try of the PC demo of Eliosi's Hunt, an indie sci-fi top-down platformer and shooter, developed by TDZ Games. Assuming there aren't any delays, it will be released on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms by August 15, 2017.
In this title, we play as Eliosi, an ingenious young Zelicyan who dreams of becoming a great bounty hunter. However, completing his first ever contract will be more challenging than he so thinks, especially due to the nature of the postwar world he inhabits. Thankfully, he has his laser pistol and trusty companion drone to assist him during his journey.
This demo contains only one stage, the hunt for Lady Swamp. But, it along with the trailer, provide a good look as to how the final game will be play. Basically, you'll be trekking and platforming through various environments, dispatching enemies with your pistol, and looking for alternate paths and secrets for upgrades. At the end of each mission, depending on the number of Lost Communicators, Drone Parts, and Bonus Items you collected, you can upgrade Eliosi's attributes like speed or max number of dashes. Plus, you do have the option of speedrunning the stage to attain 100% completion, which unlocks something else.
The controls are solid, and the platforming and combat challenges are introduced in a fair fashion. The environmental design for the swamp and enemies are great - they really convey that this planet is both alien and dangerous - what with the giant vines and brambles, and carnivorous birds. I really also enjoy how you are rewarded with upgrade points for going off the beaten path and exploring, There's a lot of room for skillful play, while still allowing for less-skilled players to progress forward.
Overall, I enjoyed playing through this demo. I don't have any faults with this demo, other than that minor quibble in the options menu (have a FPS limiter in the final version). This really reminds me of a modernized and polished version of the older 3D "corridor" platformers. I wish the best of luck to the devs at TDZ Games for the final release.
