Let's Play New Super Mario Bros. - Part 16: What Was This World's Theme Again?
We're on to the extra levels of World 6, and they are rather interesting. 6-A is a desert stage, and it brings back Lakitu, but the main gimmick is tornadoes. They look similar to the whirlpools in 6-5, but they blow Mario upward instead of sucking him down. 6-B is an athletic ice stage, and it introduces a new type of line-guided sprite, poles that can be swung on. Naturally, the ice physics are back, as are the purple mushrooms from 4-2 (briefly), and we even get to have fun with the blue shell powerup a bit. The World 6 castle is nothing special; it just has a lot of moving stone blocks, particularly single-tile-high ones that slide through caps in the surrounding platforms. The boss is probably one of the most interesting ones in the game, though...the Monty Tank. It's a mole in a tank that shoots Bullet Bills and throws Bob-ombs at you, and you must jump on the mole when it pops out of the tank. To complicate things, the mole adds a new section to the tank every time you hit him, so it's harder to climb up there.
Well, we are 3/4 of the way through the game now. With 6 worlds finished, what awaits us in World 7?...
