Let's Play New Super Mario Bros. - Part 7: Fun at the Beach
Last time, we did all of the numbered levels in World 3 (as well as the tower and ghost house); now it's time for the lettered ones (as well as the castle). And this time, we actually get to see some beach levels...notice how, despite being on the beach, none of the levels in the previous episode actually had a beach theme? Well, 3-A does (though it inexplicably uses athletic level music). It also introduces a new enemy called Skeeter, which moves across the surface of the water and drops bombs. 3-B is another athletic level, this time made entirely of pipes (so, naturally, there are also lots of Piranha Plants and Venus Fire Traps). And in 3-C, we return to the beach and reunite with our old enemy Spike Bass, who acts the same as he did in 2-A, except this time, there are no spin lifts to get around the level. Then there is the World 3 castle. Being in a water world, it does indeed contain water, though it rarely affects gameplay. The main stage gimmick here is spiked pillars, the huge, smashing things found in the sixth castle of Super Mario World. We also see a few Whomps, which are sort of like cross-dimensional Thwomps. The boss is Cheepskipper, a large fish that jumps out of the water and flops toward you...and it's actually harder than you might expect. Still fairly easy, but don't underestimate it either.
With three worlds down and five to go, we find something weird after completing this one...
