Let’s Play Portal 2 #18: Wresting Hope from the Clutches of Incompetence

It’s no secret that Wheatley greatly dislikes us. Given the chance to cast us aside and continue failing to run the facility in the name of science until the end of everything – which, by my rough estimates, should be in about thirty four minutes when the reactor explodes and destroys the entire laboratory – the AI would do so in an instant. He only tolerates our presence because he needs us to complete the tests he’s been crudely cobbling together and the longer we’re here, the closer we can inch to his base of operations and the more we can scheme with GlaDOS to remove him from power.
Even a blind pig a find an acorn once in a while, however, a phrase we should take the heart when dismissing Wheatley as a bumbling, incompetent fool. While it is true that he is a bumbling, incompetent fool, from that can come flashes of brilliant genius that no-one could anticipate or plan from, a fractured wisdom that he and he alone understands. In those scant few moments where the stars align and he has a wonderfully brilliant idea, our only hope is that it has occurred in isolation, a foolproof plan surrounded by many other, far more susceptible schemes we can use to bring that one clever bit of craftiness tumbling down.
You may be wondering whether the last two paragraphs concern Wheatley’s not-at-all secret scheme to get rid of us shortly. Normally I’d say to watch and see but let’s face it, Wheatley is as subtle the impact of the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs.
For those who are unsure as to how much of an impact that meteor had, answer me this: when was the last time you saw a living dinosaur?
