Let’s Play HC Minecraft Take Three #69: Safety in Numbers

Many are the perils that you face while exploring the world are the same as those the villagers must endure, though some aren’t to the same extent. Zombies will actively chase them down and try to kill them, often converting them into zombie villagers who will then try and attack more villagers. Fall damage and drowning are very real things they have to watch out for, but they don’t have to deal with a hunger bar. They also don’t need sleep even though beds are required for more villagers.
The most dangerous threat they face however are pillagers. Pillagers seek out villages and attack them, aiming to wipe out the population with their powerful crossbows. As villagers are unable to defend themselves, you need to make sure that measures are in place to keep them safe. You can of course patrol the village yourself but that takes time away from other things you’ll want to do. You can also build a wall to try and keep pillagers out but I won’t be doing that for the time being, as that would really hem the villagers in and make the place quite crowded. The final thing you can do is get iron golems to patrol the place, whether they’re made by you or spawned naturally when the village reaches a certain size. They will patrol the village in your stead, doing battle with monsters and pillagers to keep the place safe. It’s not a foolproof method but you can’t always be there to look out for them, so why not have a hulking automaton of metal or two keep an eye on the place when you go off mining or exploring?
