Let’s Play Rock of Ages 2 #02: Crushing the Early Game… Literally
This is a blind playthrough. Kindly avoid posting spoilers in the comments or solutions to puzzles either in this video or future ones so as not to spoil the experience for me or those that haven’t seen the game before.
Right away, it’s clear that some aspects of the game care much different compared to its predecessor, most important of which is the speed that the boulders can roll at. When given a long and straight path, they can gain a huge amount of momentum that can render many defensive structures all-but useless, though that depends on where you place them. There’ll always be places where you have to take it slower and those are the best spots to try and slow them further alongside places where you can easily knock your foe over the edge and into oblivion.
The other major change is that you unlock the various defensive units and boulders – the first had your boulder choice be cosmetic for all but one and had the powers tied to purchases during the match – by completing stages on the world map. This allows you to quickly beeline towards your preferred units, though I have little doubt that you’ll need to become good with all of them by the time you reach the final levels. You won’t know what boulders each stage unlocks on your first playthrough and it’s not something you should worry about; I imagine the developers balanced the levels so that every one of them is completable with the basic boulder, though not doing so would be a good way to ensure certain levels were saved till later on.
