Let's Play The Banner Saga [Part 18] - Lest They Not Come Home
Hello and welcome to Let's Play Overly Ostentatious Chapter Titles Simulator-- I mean, The Banner Saga. This episode we actually finish Chapter 4. If you've been getting a little tired of the Varl campaign gameplay, where you are actually able to kill things in combat then be pleased. This episode we move on back to Rook and Alette, and humans, who are really quite bad at combat and get their asses whupped all the time. Yay!
No but really, chapter 3 of The Banner Saga culminates in some terrifying shit going down in the main story. Due to it's centrality to the plot, I wont spoil what happens, but I will talk about what happens before it happens. You might remember last episode of this very same Banner Saga LP, we fought against some dredge atop a tower in a village and saved a dude. His name is Eyvind, and he actually wakes up this episode. We talk to him a little, but he's a bit of a jerkintosh because he's pissed because the lady that was with him is dead, killed be the dredge. I have no idea what bearing Eyvind's presence will have on the story to come, but this is The Banner Saga, so for all I know he'll probably just up and die while hauling a cart. We also do get to Grofheim this episode, which is a super cool moment.
But anyway, for all those human-centrists there's some more gameplay from the human campaign as we enter the fourth chapter of The Banner Saga's narrative: Lest They Not Come Home. I have no clue what it's meant to mean, but it probably has some relevance to the the back story or plot to come that I am ignorant of.
Remember that crazy dude with the look in his eye? Ekkil? He's there at the start, and he sets his cronies upon us for some more combat. Only, the thing is we don't realize how weak we are compared to the Varl and get rekt. I kind of prefer the Varl gameplay, where we kick ass and take names, but a loss is fine too. This way we get to see what meaningful impact our failure has on the narrative and gameplay of The Banner Saga. Well it doesn't seem like much, other than we get kick out of the town of Frostvellr, but we would have left anyway for the purposes of advancing the story. Well, we lose a ton of morale and have no food, so there's that. I mean, I shouldn't be upset at the game for not rubbing salt in my wounds after sucking so bad.
