Let's Play The Elder Scrolls Arena Blind - Part 22 - A Giant Hedge Maze
We make our way to the Elden Grove to hunt for the third piece of the Staff of Chaos. Upon first glance of the splash screen, it appears to be the Shire, a place of tranquility and Hobbits. Upon entering the actual map, it appears to be a giant outdoors maze filled with fog.
This map is pretty much like all other dungeons, except that it is entirely outdoors in a hedge maze, which means we get to see a lot of trees and open sky; we even get some crows making noise from time to time. The dungeon itself is very open in design, which leads to a lot of nonlinear exploration, though it also amounts to me getting lost a bunch.
This dungeon is comparable in some ways to the Fortress of Ice. Similar to that one, this is a gauntlet with no places to rest, meaning we have to keep fighting our way forward through the deadly hoards. Note that because the entrance to floor two is in a semi-linear area on the far side of the map, the game will make you work a bit to get there, no real shortcuts like some of the other dungeons we have seen.
Enemies mostly consist of Wolves, which are absolute mooks as usual and therefore are great subjects for Lifesteal. We also see a lot of Ghosts here, which blend into the fog and thus can be difficult to see until they attack us, these guys are also weak. The main threat of this place is pretty much a combo of deadly melee and instantaneous death at ranged combat, the Wraith (which I keep calling the Lich). Note that they are also invisible like ghosts, meaning pretty much we need to inch around and hope not to die due to one of these nightmarish things, which have become a lot more common since Selene's Web.
Also note that exploration is a bit like Selene's Web, most areas here are pretty much devoid of anything of interest besides things trying to kill you. We do find some small rooms with gates separating them from the rest of the maze, these have some paltry amounts of loot.
Basically, this is me wandering the first floor of the Elden Grove whilst getting entirely lost due to the open expanses and getting killed by Wraiths. Eventually we work our way through the maze, finding a doorway leading to floor two, though we crash right before the end of the video. The last thing we do here is reload the game to prepare to get to floor 2 of the Elden Grove.
