Tenebrae is a large place that's split across three loading screens, with a score of characters in each area for us to talk to. Each one has information about the world the Avatar finds himself in, some of it useful and most if merely for worldbuilding. The more we talk to people, the better we're understanding just how bad things are in Tenebrae, especially those who end up on the wrong side of the law set by Mordea. Those that cross the ruling tempest suffer a terrible fate as we saw on the docks and the same will happen to us if we get caught something something illegal, like stealing. How bad, we'll see soon enough when we inevitably try to pilfer something right under the nose of the item's owner and trust me, it doesn't end well for the Avatar.
While we explore, we need to keep our eyes open for any equipment that we can find, as we have nowhere near enough coins to get even a modest upgrade from our dagger. There's plenty of things for us to get, but we need to seek them out and then find a good opportunity to take them safely without being seen. You'd think the Avatar would object to taking things or that the Guardian would point out his virtuous acts as a sign that Pagan was breaking his will to uphold the virtues, but the game does neither; instead, it merely has the consequence for getting caught stealing which some would say is bad enough.
