Let's Play Ultima VIII #05: Searching the Forgotten Places
354Up until now, the Avatar has been casually exploring the poorer side of Tenebrae, talking to the locals and learning what he can about the city and the island in general. As far as we can gather hers is not a kind reign, though we've not talked to enough people yet to get the whole picture on how harshly she rules. We've been pointed in the direction of a couple of people that could help us, Mythran and Bentic. Mythran reside beyond the walls of Tenebrae and we'll seek out the scholar soon enough, but we've got more that we need to do on this side of the city first.
The first of those things is finding more equipment. We've stumbled on a couple of nice things and know that the blacksmith has some equipment we really want, if only we spent our coins to buy it. We're going to need that money for other things later on so we're going to try our hand at a little thievery, taking every precaution not to get caught. We've also been given some hints as to a place we can explore that might hold some treasures, though that comes with a modicum of risk. It also involves some platforming, something I've had little need to use yet.
Tenebrae has a lot of equipment lying around for us to take, if we can find our way into the rooms it's kept in. There's also a lot of hidden goodies in and around the city that make it possible to outfit yourself exceptionally well while spending any money at all. We're going to find our first few pieces of equipment right now, but rest assured we'll be well prepared for the dangerous beyond the city walls by the time we leave, as well as the Avatar can be at least.
We've also been avoiding doing some significant reading up until now. That's going to change, as there's a lot we can learn about the world within books, some of it possibly pertinent to our efforts to escape from Pagan. Most of it won't be, but it's good to read every once in a while, is it not?
