Let's Play Yoshi's Island - Part 16: Go Forth And Defeat Lakitus
We now come to World 4, which is probably my favorite in the game. It doesn't have a specific theme, but I guess "mountain" would be as good as any.
So what's the first stage here? 4-1: GO! GO! MARIO!. It's called that because the final room consists of a...let's not get too far ahead. The stage starts out like any typical grassland one, although the Koopas are back, and we're introduced to a new version of an old enemy: Goombas. There are plenty of slopes here, and the Wild Ptooie Plant and Bullet Bill shooter also return. In the second room, another enemy makes a reappearance: Fuzzy! It's dizzy time again, but this time, Yoshi will be dizzy on much more treacherous terrain than before. The third and last area is presumably what gives the stage its name; it's basically just one long Super Mario star run, with various collectibles along the way...and, of course, various enemies to plow into! There's at least one enemy that appears only in this room and nowhere else in the game.
4-2, on the other hand, is a very mundane stage. Even its name (4-2: Cave of the Lakitus) is forgettable. It's another garden-variety underground stage, and it contains the same wall-dwelling Lakitus that were in 2-7. (What is it with this game and Lakitus, anyway? They're not even that common of an enemy, yet three stages so far have had "Lakitu" in the name.) Besides the Lakitus, which are as pathetic as ever, the enemies consist mainly of Piranha Plants, trick-or-treaters, Koopas, bats, and Tap-Taps. The main problem for perfectionists is the flowers: four of the five are either in tricky locations or don't give you a second chance should you miss them. There isn't all that much else to say about this one, honestly.
