With World 1 finished, including the Extra stage (phew), it's time to move on to World 2. 2-1, Visit Koopa And Para-Koopa, starts the show...but oddly, the Koopas don't appear all that much in this stage, mostly just at the beginning. What does show up a lot in this stage is large falling blocks that, yes, can kill you by crushing you. They're not hard to get past if you keep on your toes, though. Oh, and Poochy returns in this stage, but this time, there's no autoscrolling and not much in the way of danger.

2-2, The Baseball Boys, introduces a new enemy type. Remember the Bandit enemy in 1-8? (They appear much more frequently later in the game.) Well, now there are ones that have donned baseball gear and can throw or hit your eggs back at you! The eggs don't damage you, but they do knock you back (which isn't all that troublesome in this stage, but just wait...). 2-2 also has a large labyrinthine area in the ground with some new enemy types, and it's the first stage to feature blue watermelons. Blue watermelons...hehehe...
